Cedar County Sheriff Larry Koranda says officers were called to the scene of a light plan crash about three miles south and a quarter mile west of Yankton. He says they got the call about 4:52pm on Saturday.
An intact Cessna 172G aircraft with two occupants was found in the cornfield northwest of the road intersection. Both occupants were taken to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. The extent of their injuries was unknown.
Koranda identified the pilot as 56 year old Ronald Feimer, the passenger was his son, 16 year old Alan Feimer. Both are from Yankton.
The FAA is investigating the cause of the accident.
Besides the Cedar County Sheriffs office other agencied responding included: Cedar County Emergency Management, Cedar County Roads Department, Crofton Fire & Rescue, Yankton Fire Department and Yankton County EMS.
