Three Dead, Suspect Arrested in Scotland Shooting

Tuesday evening, the Bon Homme County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots-fired at a Scotland, South Dakota residence. Upon arrival, two subjects were found dead, while three other subjects had sustained gunshot wounds; one subject later died due to their injuries. The Department of Criminal Investigation was requested to lead the investigation into the incident.
An investigation conducted by DCI Special Agents led to the arrest of Francis D. Lange on charges to include three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and five counts of aggravated assault . Initial indication is the incident stemmed from a domestic-related altercation. While this is still an ongoing investigation, there is no threat to the public or community.
Assisting with the response and investigation was the South Dakota Highway Patrol and Bon Homme County Sheriff’s Office.
