Two Common Core Bills Fail, One Advances

The South Dakota House Education Committee killed a couple of bills related to “Common Core” educational standards, and passed a third.

The committee voted 8 to 7 to defeat a bill that would have replaced the Common Core standards.

Committee Chair, Representative Jacky Sly of Rapid City said they should be concerned about how students are doing with the new standards…

 

Another bill that would have allowed parents to keep their kids from taking the corresponding test, failed by an 8 to 7 vote. A third bill to require public notice of education hearings on future standards passed on a 13 to 1 vote.
