Logan Morrison forced in the go-ahead run with a four-pitch walk in the eighth inning after striking out in his first three at-bats, propelling the Minnesota Twins to a 4-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

Jose Berrios struck out nine while allowing just three hits over eight innings for the Twins, his latest masterpiece after a rough four-start stretch.

The Twins have designated pitcher Phil Hughes for assignment, an expensive decision to dump the right-hander after continued struggles recovering from rib surgeries.

Hughes is making $13.2 million both this season and due the same salary in 2019. He has a 6.75 ERA in 12 innings this year, having been dropped from the rotation after two starts. He made five relief appearances. Hughes is 5-10 with a 5.99 ERA in 124 2/3 innings over the last three seasons.
