After splitting a doubleheader with Cleveland, the Minnesota Twins remain a game and a half out of a wild card spot.
Kyle Gibson pitched the Twins to a 7-1 win in the opener Wednesday before Mike Pelfrey failed to get out of the second inning in a 10-2 loss in the nightcap.
Gibson worked six scoreless innings and struck out nine. Offensively, the Twins got a three-run double from Torii Hunter and home runs from Joe Mauer and Byron Buxton.
Pelfrey lasted just one and two-thirds innings in the second game. The Twins had late solo homers from Miguel Sano and Eddie Rosario to account for their scoring.
The split leaves the Twins one and a half games back of Houston which took over the second wild card spot. The Angels lost and are one game ahead of the Twins.
The Twins play their final road game on the schedule at Cleveland Thursday night before returning to Target Field to host Kanas City for a three game series over the weekend.
