The Minnesota Twins have decided to add protective netting above the dugouts at Target Field for 2016, following Major League Baseball’s recent safety recommendations.
The Twins announced their plans Wednesday to comply with MLB’s guideline of protective netting between the dugouts for any field-level seats within 70 feet of home plate, a standard they’d previously met at their ballpark that opened in 2010.
Because the lower-level seats in Minnesota are closer to home plate than any other MLB venue, the Twins elected to go further with protective netting that will run the length of both dugouts and extend about 7 feet high. The Twins said the netting will be minimally obtrusive for fans sitting behind it and that they’ll communicate with season-ticket holders most affected by the change.
