The first move by the new front office team of the Minnesota Twins is apparently to bolster the team’s catching department.
Major League sources report the Twins will sign Houston Astro free agent catcher Jason Castro to a three year deal worth about 24.5 million dollars.
Castro is known as one of the best defensive catchers in the game. He batted just .210 last season in Houston with 11 homers and 32 runs batted in. He is a lifetime .232 hitter.
The 29-year-old backstop is rated the fifth best pitch framer in the majors and threw out 26 per cent of base stealers last season.
He was an All Star in 2013.
Kurt Suzuki, who has shouldered the bulk of the Twins’ catching load in recent years, is a free agent.
