Two split squad games for the Minnesota Twins Tuesday produced a pair of spring training wins.
Joe Mauer hit his first homer this spring, a two-run drive that sent a split squad of Minnesota Twins past the Baltimore Orioles 5-1 Tuesday.
Mauer connected in the first inning for an opposite-field shot to left. Trevor Plouffe added a two-run homer in the fifth for the Twins.
Daniel Palka, who figures to start the season for the Twins’ AA minor league team, hit a pair of solo homers in a 7-5 win over the Phillies in the other split squad outing.
The Twins face Tampa Bay Wednesday.
