The Minnesota Twins have signed first-round draft pick Alex Kirilloff, a corner outfielder from Pennsylvania they acquired with the 15th overall selection.

The 18-year-old Kirilloff was in Minnesota on Thursday to watch the Twins play the Philadelphia Phillies, tour the ballpark and sign his contract. Major League Baseball’s assigned value for the 15th pick is a signing bonus of just over $2.8 million.

The left-handed hitting Kirilloff played at Plum High School, about 20 miles east of Pittsburgh. He said he compares himself to Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen. Kirilloff will start his professional career with Elizabethton in the Appalachian League, one level higher than where the Twins usually send high school draft picks.

The Twins have signed 28 of their 42 draft picks from earlier this month.
