Minnesota Twins position players aren’t due to report until later in the week, but the team’s starting shortstop has become its first spring training casualty. Pedro Florimon was slated for surgery to have his appendix removed Monday.
Manager Ron Gardenhire expects Florimon to miss at least two weeks, but the Minnesota skipper is still counting on him to be in the starting lineup on opening day of the season. One of those filling his position early will be veteran Jason Bartlett who was brought back to the Twins in the off season as a free agent.
The Twins held their first official workout for pitchers and catchers on Monday in Fort Myers, Florida.
