Twins Salute Minor Leaguers

The Minnesota Twins have chosen outfielder Zach Granite and left-hander Stephen Gonsalves as their minor league player and pitcher of the year.

The Twins announced Wednesday Granite won the Sherry Robertson Award and Gonsalves won the Jim Rantz Award, named for the former farm system directors.

The 24-year-old Granite batted .295 with 30 extra-base hits and 56 stolen bases in 127 games for Double-A Chattanooga this season. He was a 14th-round draft pick in 2013 out of Seton Hall.

The 22-year-old Gonsalves posted a 2.33 ERA in 65 2/3 innings for Class A Fort Myers and a 1.82 ERA in 74 1/3 innings for Double-A Chattanooga with 155 strikeouts between the two stops. He was a fourth-round draft pick in 2013 out of Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego.
