Nick Castellanos hit a tie-breaking homer in the seventh inning as the Detroit Tigers avoided a humiliating loss Monday night, beating the Minnesota Twins 10-8.

The Tigers led 8-0 after one inning with AL ERA leader Jordan Zimmermann on the mound, only to see the Twins come back to tie the game in the seventh.

Kurt Suzuki and Miguel Sano had home runs during the Twins comeback.

Detroit manager Brad Ausmus was ejected in the middle of the rally for arguing a called third strike. During the argument, he took off his sweatshirt and used it to cover up the plate.

Castellanos homered off Pat Dean (0-1) in the bottom of the seventh to put Detroit back in front. Dean had entered the game in the first inning and threw 90 pitches in 5 1/3 innings.

Twins starter Jose Berrios lasted just two thirds of an inning, giving up seven runs.

J.D. Martinez, whose dropped fly ball allowed the tying run to score in the seventh, homered in the eighth to give the Tigers a two-run lead.
