A second deal in two days finds the Minnesota Twins trading starting centerfielder Aaron Hicks to the Yankees for catcher John Ryan Murphy.
Former first round draft pick Hicks hit .256 for the Twins in 2015 with 11 homers and 33 runs batted in. Murphy was Brian McCann’s backup for New York, batting .277 in 67 games with three homers and 14 RBIs.
The move clears the way for Byron Buxton to assume the starting role in center. Ryan will give the Twins more depth behind the plate with Kurt Suzuki.
