Several hundred environmental activists from across the state met in Des Moines for the annual conference of the Iowa Environmental Council. The organization’s spokeswoman, Katy Heggen (HEG-in), says the summit attracts a unique cross-section of Iowa’s environmental community to discuss a range of topics from climate change to the sociology of sustainability….

The event’s keynote speaker was Chad Pregracke (prah-GRAK-ee), the Quad Cities native who was named the CNN Hero of the Year in 2013. He’s the president and founder of the non-profit group Living Lands & Waters.
