Tweaks Made to Biotech Labeling Bill

Some tweaks have been made to Congressman Mike Pompeo’s national biotech labeling bill. The change involves strengthening consumer confidence in food safety and modeling a new labeling program on the proven success of organic certification. National Council of Farmer Cooperatives President and CEO, Chuck Connor says it should help get the legislation approved.

Connor says the tweaks give the legislation broad coverage by also including non GMO labeling.

He says he thinks now the legislation should pick up even more support.

Connor says it’s important to have a national labeling program to avoid all the piecemeal state rules that could impede trade.
