During Thanksgiving, consumers across the country will be traditionally dining on turkey. Minnesota leads the nation in turkey production. Douglas County Turkey farmer Erica Sawatszke is a sixth generation producer. She says while her farm is now producing turkeys year round, the challenge this year has been getting enough propane to provide enough heat to the young birds.
She says one of the major issues turkey growers are concerned about now is ag labor and the need for more workers.
Sawatszke says at the national level, the primary priority they have is for the U.S. to move ahead with trade deals so they can export their product. She points to a recent breakthrough with China.
Sawatszke says turkey producers also want to see Congress bring up and ratify the U.S. Mexico Canada trade pact.
