The Trump administration is looking to complete a trade deal with the United Kingdom before the end of 2020. Nebraska Farm Bureau’s Director of National Affairs Jordan Dux they share that optimism. He says while there’s great potential for America’s farmers and ranchers in that market, there are also some challenges to work through.
He says there are some non-tariff trade barriers that will need to be overcome especially regarding biotechnology. However, the hope is the United Kingdom will follow sound science.
Dux says Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to meet next month in the U.S. with President Trump and that should help with any future negotiations on a free trade deal.
Full talks between the U.S. and the U.K. could start as soon as February.
