The Trump administration has sent a proposal on the USMCA to House Democratic Leaders. The proposal offers a fix to issues raised by the Democrats including labor, environmental and pharmaceutical concerns. Nebraska Farm Bureau’s Director of National Affairs Jordan Dux says the administration is moving in the right direction with USMCA to get it ratified this year.
He says the USMCA has several positive components. It updates the old NAFTA and retains access for U.S. agricultural products.
Dux says the American Farm Bureau estimated the USMCA trade agreement could increase U.S. agricultural exports by $2.2 billion.
Trump administration officials say they expect the USMCA can be passed by Congress within the next two months, although lawmakers have a busy schedule this fall.
