North Dakota state lawmakers are considering four pieces of trespassing legislation that include the allowance of electronic posting. State Farm Bureau Public Policy Director Pete Hanebutt says each measure contains positive provisions to protect farmers and ranchers private property rights.
He says these bills came about following a pilot program that began last year.
Hanebutt says all interested groups have been represented with these bills including agriculture, sportsmen and the general public.
Hanebutt says North Dakota is different than most states in that all land isn’t considered posted which means if a person doesn’t see a sign, they could just come onto that land and hunt. He says that would seriously impact the owner’s private property rights.
