Transportation leaders think discussions on President Trump’s $1 trillion infrastructure package will begin in the Senate now that the House GOP health care bill has been pulled. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says it’s positive Senators and administration officials want to move forward on modernizing the aging transportation system.

He says the President needs some wins in Congress rather than just issuing executive orders and pushing for infrastructure legislation could give him that opportunity.

Steenhoek says the challenge will be for Congress to come up with a sustainable transportation funding package. He says whatever revenue source is approved it needs to keep up with rising costs.

Steenhoek says although his group hasn’t taken a position on funding infrastructure through a repatriation tax on corporations, it should at least be discussed.
