Transportation Official Sees Long Term Highway Fix Coming

One transportation official is hoping that short term passage of the highway bill this week will lead to a longer term measure in the very near future. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says odds are favorable that a six year or longer term bill will get passed.

Steenhoek says his biggest concern is that Congress has to come up with a positive funding structure to boost the country’s roads and bridge needs.

He says the short term highway bill did not include a component calling for heavier truck weight limits. Steenhoek says his group will push for that in the long term transportation bill debate coming up next week.

Congress needed to solve the highway funding bill issue by Thursday as the current measure had expired.
