Transportation Official Says Flooding Shows Need To Upgrade Infrastructure

Recent flooding on the Illinois River that spilled over to the Mississippi likely put pressure on the country’s aging locks and dams. That’s according to Mike Steenhoek, Executive Director of the Soy Transportation Coalition.

He says this recent weather event highlights the need to not only upgrade the locks and dams on the nation’s inland waterways but also to consistently maintain them.

Steenhoek says Congress needs to be better stewards of those waterways and follow what farmers do with their own operations.

Steenhoek wants to see Congress follow through with infrastructure funding and is pleased the President has made it a priority.
