President Trump speaking in Ohio this week talked about his plan to pump $1Trillion in public and private investment into the country’s aging infrastructure. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says he’s encouraged by the President’s commitment for infrastructure upgrading and development and is anxious to work with him and Congress on that.
He says besides the challenge of finding the best funding sources to upgrade the locks and dams and aging infrastructure, streamlining the use of those monies should be the goal.
Steenhoek didn’t come out in opposition or in favor or user fees or tolls to pay for infrastructure projects but says a cost benefit analysis needs to be studied before going forward.
Steenhoek says Trump was the first President he ever remembers talking about the importance of upgrading the inland waterway system and being committed to following through with that.
