South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard has signed Senate Bill one, which adds a number of fees and taxes for road and bridge funding.

He says it is a needed investment in vital infrastructure…

Daugaard says it would have been easy to push off the increases for a few years…

The bill included an emergency clause, which makes most of it effective April first. The Governor says much of the money will go to the counties…

The gas tax will go up six cents a gallon, license plates for most cars will go up twenty percent, commercial vehicle registrations will increase, and counties will have the option to raise wheel taxes up to five dollars a wheel.

Taxes and fees will go up about eighty five million dollars over the next two years.
