Congress is facing a tough problem at the end of July, when the Transportation Bill will expire. Lawmakers are also facing a significant short fall in the highway trust fund, which pays for the highway bill. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director, Mike Steenhoek says doing short term extensions isn’t the answer.
Steenhoek says funding the highway bill with a fuel tax is not a viable solution long term.
He says Congress will need to come up with other funding options.
Steenhoek says if Congress doesn’t pass a long term highway bill before it expires July 31st, and pushes the issue into 2016, it will create even more problems.
