TransCanada finds fault in a letter the Environmental Protection Agency has sent to the State Department in its evaluation of the Keystone XL oil pipeline.
The EPA noted TransCanada has improved efforts to prevent a spill and will take responsibility for any leaks.
TransCanada spokesman Shawn Howard rejects EPA’s contention that Keystone XL will increase greenhouse gas emissions, because it will carry crude produced from Canadian oil sands. . .
The EPA, however, says development of Canadian oil sands…which it contends produces more carbon emissions…could become infeasible with the drastic drop in oil prices.
Howard says oil sands development will continue with or without Keystone XL. . .
The EPA letter adds to the review the State Department is making as it submits a recommendation on whether TransCanada should receive a presidential permit to build Keystrone XL from western Canada to Steele City, Nebraska.
