A bill introduced this week into the South Dakota Legislature would require public school students to use the locker rooms, shower rooms and changing facilities matching their gender at birth. Schools could use single occupancy restrooms as an alternative.
Governor Dennis Daugaard says with the change in Washington, he doesn’t expect the same pressure on gender issues from the Department of Education…..
Daugaard says he thinks schools can make their own arrangements as needed…..
Daugaard says there have been problems in other states where similar bills have been passed….
Sponsor, Republican Senator Lance Russell of Hot Springs says he is interested in protecting all students.
