Crews continue to work at the site of a crude oil leak on the Keystone pipeline in southern Hutchinson County. Mark Cooper with pipe owner Trans Canada says they are getting ready for the permanent fix
The leak, discovered on April fourth, spilled more than four hundred barrels of crude oil, mostly underground. The pipeline was shut down for a week during the search for the source of the leak. It was found in a weld of a pipe section.
Cooper says their crews have removed the contaminated soil
A temporary patch was used on the line so Trans Canada could resume shipments, at a reduced pressure. Cooper says the permanent fix will involve another shutdown
Cooper said he didn’t have final numbers yet on the amount of soil that was removed. Trucks have taken that soil to a disposal facility in Minnesota.
