Trans Canada has filed a lawsuit over the U.S. government’s rejection of their Keystone XL Pipeline project. The company also plans to file a second legal challenge that will seek more than $15 billion in damages. Dakota Rural Action Chairman Paul Seamans who’s group opposes Keystone XL says the suits are in both the U.S. and Canada.
He thinks Trans Canada is more serious about seeking damages through a lawsuit than they are about pursuing plans to build the pipeline, especially now that they’ve gone to court over the issue.
Seamans says Trans Canada officials are continuing the trend of bullying their opponents.
Trans Canada’s lawsuit is asking for a ruling that the denial of the pipeline permit was without legal merit. The White House and the State Department both declined to comment on the lawsuit or the NAFTA challenge.
