Traffic Fatalities in Hand and Roberts Counties

One male, age 16, died Friday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash that occurred south of Ree Heights.

The name of the deceased is not being released pending notification of family. He was the only person involved in the crash.

A 1994 Mazda B4000 pickup was northbound on 349th Avenue when the driver failed to negotiate a curve after coming over a hill. The vehicle went into the west ditch and rolled.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Hand County Sheriff’s Office, Hand County Emergency Management and Hand County Ambulance.

The names of the two are not being released pending notification of family members. They were the only occupants.

A 2007 Chevy Silverado 25000HD pickup was southbound on 473rd Avenue when the driver lost control. The vehicle entered the ditch and rolled multiple times.

The passenger, 69, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 16, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office.
