Trade is top of mind among producers attending this week’s South Dakota Pork Producers Council Pork Congress. President Ferlyn Hofer says they’re closely watching this week’s trade talks with China and want resolution of the trade war that will include China dropping its tariffs on U.S. pork.

He says beyond China, their industry has been successful in developing new markets in the Pacific Rim and many third world countries.

Hofer says South Dakota’s pork producers are in a great position to provide high quality pork for those new customers.

The 50th annual meeting is slated for Wednesday and Thursday in Sioux Falls with several speakers, pork industry awards and a sold-out trade show with 130 vendors.
