Trade Promotion Authority Discussed By Farmers Union

Trade and trade promotion authority was part of the discussion at the just concluded National Farmers Union Convention in Wichita, Kansas. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says his group is continuing with their long standing policy of opposing giving trade promotion authority to any President.

Hansen says NFU officials also point out that the recent U.S. South Korean Free Trade agreement has been an abject failure.

Hansen says that’s a concern because the Korean FTA is the template for all future trade agreements including the current Trans Pacific Partnership which is under discussion. He says U.S. trade policy needs some drastic changes.

Hansen says that translates to lost economic activity and manufacturing and results in taking 3 percent off the United State’s gross national product.
