Trade Negotiators Blame Canada for Trans Pacific Partnership Hold Up

U.S. trade negotiators say Canada is partly to blame for holding up the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement. They’re frustrated with Canada not providing market access for both dairy and poultry. National Milk Producer Federation’s Chris Galen says Canada has been a tough nut to crack on market access issues for some time.

Galen say he’s glad Senators have introduced a measure to give the President Trade Promotion Authority as that’s the real key to moving the Trans Pacific Partnership.

Galen’s hopeful there will be more movement on trade next week when Japanese Prime Minister Abe meets with President Obama in Washington D.C.

Dairy exports are critical as the value of U.S. exports is now at $ 6.5 billion annually.
