The 11 remaining countries in the Trans Pacific Partnership could finalize the accord without the U.S. next month. Minnesota Cattlemen’s Association President Krist Wollum says that should prompt U.S. negotiators to get moving on getting bilateral trade deals approved, particularly with Japan.
He says one of the major concerns with the U.S. not being in the TPP once its finalized is the possibility of the U.S. losing market share and facing higher tariffs.
Wollum says many of the trade problems the U.S. is facing is being hampered by not having all the USDA officials confirmed and being shorthanded at the bargaining table.
Some trade experts don’t think the TPP even if finalized in November will be in place for at least another year.
