The future of trade under the Trump Administration has been a huge question mark, especially regarding NAFTA and China. South Dakota Senator John Thune says it will be difficult for the President-elect to dismantle the 30-year old trade agreement with Mexico and Canada and its likely to meet Congressional opposition.
He says making changes to NAFTA is a slippery slope when the U.S. is so dependent on these two markets.
As far as trade relations with China, Thune says there is less fear of a trade war now that Trump has nominated Iowa Governor Terry Branstad as Ambassador to China.
Thune says Trump just wants China to play by the rules when it comes to trade and that is precisely what is needed.
