The Great Plains Athletic Conference has issued weekly women’s track and field awards.
Kati Kneifl of Morningside is this week’s field athlete-of-the-week. Kneifl, a junior from Sheldon, Iowa, won the women’s javelin at the Drake Relays in a field where 13 of the 19 competitors came from NCAA Division I schools.
Kneifl’s distance of 46.39 meters (152-2) broke the Morningside school record and is the second longest distance in the NAIA this season.
Northwestern’s Katie Bosch is this week’s track athlete-of-the-week. Bosch, a senior from Ankeny, Iowa, qualified for nationals in two events and won a title in another at the Drake Relays last weekend.
She met the auto mark in the 800m with a time of 2:12, eighth fastest in the NAIA, while finishing 16th in a field featuring nearly all NCAA D-I runners. Bosch then anchored the 4×800 to a runner-up finish with a school-record and auto qualifying time of 8:58.7, second fastest in the NAIA to date.
