Trade Ministers from the 11 countries involved in the Trans Pacific Partnership talks are scheduled to meet Tuesday in Hawaii. They’re hoping to complete the world’s largest regional trade agreement. National Pork Producer Council trade committee members met last week with Chief U.S. Ag negotiator Darci Vetter ahead of those talks. NPPC President Elect John Weber, an Iowa producer says he’s hoping despite some outstanding items a final deal will be reached.

Weber is hoping Japan will come to the table and give up the protectionist stance they’ve taken through most of the discussions.

Weber says whatever is achieved in the final deal, The U.S. needs to abide by those rules just like every other country in the talks.

A report issued by the Pew Research Center suggests the pact has general public support in most of the countries involved in the discussions. The strongest support for the deal comes from Vietnam where 89-percent of citizens back the potential agreement.
