Nebraska’s top highway safety official says it’s too early to detect a trend in recent fatal highway accidents, except the trends which seem to thread through most highway deaths.
State Highway Safety Administrator Fred Zwonechek says too few killed on Nebraska highways were wearing their seat belts and too many were drinking and driving. . .

Zwonechek says drowsy and distracted driving seems to be emerging as more common aspects in highway deaths.

Zwonechek says buckling up remains the best defense against fatalities on Nebraska highways.
So far this year, 140 people have been killed on state highways compared to 149 last year at this time.
