The Minnesota Timberwolves and free-agent guard Mo Williams have agreed to a one-year deal worth $3.75 million.

Williams’ agency, Priority Sports, announced the agreement on Monday. Williams is coming off an up-and-down season with the Portland Trail Blazers, but the Timberwolves see the veteran combo guard as an ideal pairing with rookie Zach LaVine on the team’s second unit.

Williams averaged 9.7 points last season for his lowest total since his rookie year in 2003-04. He turns 32 in December and gives the Wolves some much-needed experience behind starting guards Ricky Rubio and Kevin Martin.

The agreement also could mean veteran J.J. Barea is on his way out. Barea is entering the final year of his contract.
