Senate Republicans have been busy this week trying to break a Democrat filibuster on U.S. Supreme Court Nominee Neil Gorsuch. That has held up the confirmation process for Secretary of Agriculture. However, South Dakota Senator John Thune says he’s hoping there’s still a chance to get nominee Sonny Perdue confirmed yet this week.
He says they’re trying to find an opening on the schedule for a vote on the confirmation.
Thune says the best chance to get Perdue confirmed is through unanimous consent.
The Senate goes out on recess Friday, so if Perdue isn’t confirmed as Ag Secretary today it will be two weeks before he can be considered.
