Two people were killed and another seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash late Friday night west of Viborg.

Names of the three males involved are not being released pending notification of family members.

A 2002 Chevrolet Silverado K2500 pickup was northbound on 455th Avenue. A 2015 Dodge Dart SXT was westbound on 290th Street. Neither vehicle stopped at the uncontrolled intersection and the two collided. Both vehicles came to rest in the northwest ditch.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene – the 17-year-old passenger in pickup and the 19-year-old driver of the vehicle.

The 17-year-old driver of the pickup sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. Charges are pending against him.

Neither occupant in the pickup was wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the Dart was wearing a seatbelt.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

A Rapid City, S.D., man has been identified as the person who died Tuesday in a one-vehicle crash west of Piedmont.

A 2010 Dodge Ram pickup was eastbound on Interstate 90 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle entered the transition area into a construction zone where the driver lost control. The vehicle struck several construction cones before it entered the median area and rolled several times.

The 39-year-old driver, Regie Velasco, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, 39-year-old Timothy Buckman of Rapid City, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. He was taken by ambulance to the Rapid City hospital. Neither man was wearing a seatbelt.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
