The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission approved eight major wind farms in the last thirteen months, adding almost eight hundred turbines and raising wind power production to over thirty-six hundred megawatts.

Nelson says he believes they can set adequate rules and regulations for wind power projects..
The PUC has at least three active wind power applications with more possibly on the way.
