TFI Supports Efforts To Curb CWA Rule

Farm groups including The Fertilizer Institute are supporting an effort by federal lawmakers to stop an EPA proposal that redefines navigable waters in the Clean Water Act. F-T-I’s Manager of Regulatory and Scientific Affairs Wade Foster says 231 House members have written EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy asking the agency to withdraw the rule. They agree with the claim the agency over stepping its jurisdiction.
Foster says the economic analysis is flawed because it only looks at 2009 and 2010 data. Plus they’re also concerned the public won’t get to comment on the Scientific Advisory Board report findings that EPA will use to generate a final rule.
The comment period closes in July with a final rule expected in early 2015.
