Testing is underway in Canada for a vaccine to protect pigs from Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus. The vaccine being tested in Canada is aimed at preventing the disease. Iowa Veterinarian Dr. Howard Hill, past President of the National Pork Producers Council says that’s a positive development for both U.S. and Canadian pork producers.
He says similar research is underway in the U.S. but will take a long time to complete.
Hill says PED virus can have a negative impact on trade so the fact researchers are working on the problem is good.
The University of Saskatchewan’s prototype vaccine recently moved into field testing.
