While there won’t be a head on challenge to “Common Core” education standards in the South Dakota legislature this year, there will be bills dealing with some of its details.
Representative Jim Bolin of Canton has been an outspoken critic of “Common Core” standards in the past. While not taking steps to counter the standards, he says he is sponsoring a bill that would allow students to opt out of some of the required testing….
Bolin says some students are already avoiding the standardized tests…..
Bolin, a retired teachers, says the “Common Core” standards take too much control from state and local governments.
The bill was tabled by the House Education Committee yesterday, and could be revived later in the session.
