Technology used for decades in mining is now helping with groundwater research in Nebraska.
An electromagnetic device on a helicopter can survey hundreds of feet below ground.
Jesse Korus at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln says information so far shows valleys filled with glacial rocks.
Korus says this method is a less expensive way to survey great distances, but still uses existing well information to fine tune the data.
He says the information will help protect water supplies.

Korus says the team continues to get new data from flight surveys done this summer.
He expects new discoveries will be made once the information is analyzed.
