Ogena Solutions, a Canadian company that specializes in biosecurity in animal shelters, and veterinary services has advice for pork producers in stepping up biosecurity measures in order to protect workers against COVID 19. Dr. Lucas Pantaleon is Ogena’s Technical Veterinary advisor. He says pork producers have done a great job with their biosecurity in protecting their animals but now need to step that up for the workers.

He advises producers to make sure they and their workers use face coverings, practice social distancing while packing plants need to separate workers as best as they can and have plexiglass in place.

Pantaleon says it’s also critical that producers make sure their facilities are kept clean in order to guard against the coronavirus.

Pantaleon says the major diseases pork producers are dealing with include the coronavirus as well as African Swine Fever. He says they have good surveillance in place to battle ASF., and by adding worker protections, will help with the pandemic.
