The National Education Association is holding their annual meeting beginning this week in Washington.
One of the issues on the agenda is the new federal education law called the “Every Student Succeeds Act.”
South Dakota Education Association President Mary McCorkle says it will be a welcome change…..

The law replaces “No Child Left Behind” which was often criticized for its emphasis on standardized testing.
McCorkle says the states teachers are working with the state Department of Education on the revised standards…..

McCorkle says students are parents should see results fairly quickly….

Over eight thousand educators will be attending some or all of the meeting, which extends through July 7th.
