Finding, keeping and paying teachers is becoming a significant issue for most school districts in South Dakota.
A coalition of education groups has suggested a temporary increase in state sales taxes to help move that pay scale up.
Yankton School Superintendent Dr. Wayne Kindle says they continue to see more competition for experienced teachers.

Kindle says the state also has to find ways to get more students into education.

Kindle says the focus on education as a career has to start earlier in the K – 12 years.

Several legislative interim committees have been talking about similar issues.
