Nebraska Farm Bureau members are focusing on tax relief and trade following their annual meeting. President Steve Nelson says property taxes are a huge burden on Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers.

He says the primary fix is finding a better way to fund education than through property taxes. He says the three-legged tax stool in the state needs to be rebalanced to bring down property tax reliance.

Nelson says their main national issue is making sure Congress ratifies the USMCA trade agreement and expands other market opportunities for Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers.

Nelson says the main benefit of USMCA is it provides trade certainty between the United States, Mexico and Canada.
